We couldn't decide between apple pie and apple crisp. Really, I didn't feel like making a pie crust and I wasn't exactly sure I had enough flour in the house to do a double crust, so I made this hybrid.
Here's how it went, peeled, cored and sliced (using the mandolin with only slight brush with the death, no blood was shed). It was about 12 cups of apples, six small to medium apples and 3 medium to large apples is what I used.
Then I tossed said apples with 6 tablespoons of sugar, 6 tablespoons of flour, a generous sprinkling of salt and a tablespoon of cinnamon. I put that in a sprayed pan and dotted some butter on top.
Then I mixed up 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup flour, 1 1/4 cup of quick oats, then cut in 12 tablespoons of butter. Then I poured it over the apples and baked at 350 for about 50 minutes.
